The facelift is a type of plastic surgery that is performed to tighten the skin in forehead, cheek and jaw area. This is to remove the large wrinkles and creases from the face. It is usually done along with the neck’s skin. The face-lift can really make significant changes in one’s appearance.
Here is what occurs in a facelift. It is done by creating an incision along the face’s natural lines, so that if scarring occurs, it will be hidden in the scalp area. The incision line begins from the hairline and continues around the front part of the ear then around the lobe and ends up at the back of the ear in the hairline. It is basically cutting around the outline of the face.
If there is excess fat in certain areas, this can be suctioned out. The skin will then be tightened and the excess is trimmed off. Sutures and staples are then used to close the incisions. The incision line is covered with gauze and the head with an elastic bandage, which can be removed within 2 days along with the suction tube. The head should always be in an upright position and is elevated to avoid swelling after the surgery.
Within ten days, the sutures can be removed. Pain relievers can be prescribed to ease pain. There will be bruises that might appear during the healing process. The process might all in all take at most 3 weeks. Some numbness will be felt even after the incision has healed because of capillaries that might have been touched in the process and the complete sensation might take months to return.
The procedure can be done in an outpatient clinic or in the hospital. Some surgeons require the patient to stay in the hospital for some time. It can take 2 to 5 hours for the surgery to be completed, depending on the extent of work to be done.
