Teenagers like their rooms to look a bit different from the rest of your home and they usually have one eye at least on the latest trends. It also makes sense to make their room as comfortable as possible so that it is a place they can take their friends (and stay out of your hair).
Always consult your child on colors and styles as it does neither of you any good if they hate their room. You may be a bit in denial that your fairy princess room loving child has grown up all of a sudden into a teen who detests pink but it will do you both good if you can face reality.
Look at colors together, visit displays in stores and look at pictures and try and find a compromise color scheme that you are both happy with. Once you have that worked out you can get down to choosing items which suit your taste and budget.
Once you have the basic floor covering, bedding and curtains chosen you will have the fun task of picking out accessories. If you have chosen practical flooring such as wood, laminate or plain carpet (which you should) then one of the accessories which goes down well with most teens is a shaggy rug made of cotton. These come in most colors and they are washable. If you pick out a color from the bedding or curtains you will probably find you can match it up in your rug and perhaps a throw for the bed. This will tie the color scheme of your teen’s room together nicely.
Shaggy rugs have all the attributes necessary to gladden your teenager’s heart. You probably don’t have them in the rest of your home, if it is at all traditional. They are right on trend and they make a comfortable place for lounging around reading and listening to music.
